A day in the life and home of a child in an informal settlement

The rooster crowed loudly at five o' clock in the morning. I was tired, cold and wished I lived in a better environment. There was no light so it was hard to see. I took my clothes of the line they were still wet but it was better than nothing. I went to fetch a bucket of water so I could bath. There wasn't much water but I made the best of it. There was just a little bit of soap that I could use but I wanted to save some for my mom. I got dressed into my damp clothes and went to make breakfast. There wasn't much to eat so I just had two slices of dry bread and a glass of orange juice. The dry bread was a bit moldy but I was so hungry I ate it.  Before I left I needed to use the bathroom, so I went to use the community toilet. It smelt horrible because we had no water to flush it down. No one had cleaned out any of them so that was why. I  needed to use it badly so I just bared with the smell. As I walked to school I started to think about the changes in the environment can
