Email Etiquette

Two weeks ago we learned about email etiquette. We watched a video about important points when emailing a teacher. We also had to answer a few questions on a Hyperdoc. When emailing a teacher you have to make sure you don't use slang or all caps. Always use a specific subject line. Make sure you get right to the point and sign off properly. Always be professional. We had to make sure we used all these points because we had to email our teacher. When emailing your friend will most likely be less professional. I enjoyed doing this task because it was easy and I enjoyed working on the Hyperdoc. The video was very informing.

Superhero Stop - Motion Project

This term the Grade 6's of 2017 are doing a stop - motion project. We have to work with a partner to create our own superhero or villain. We have to use the I Can Animate and iMovie apps. The project is a mixture of Art, English and Technology. We had to draw our character then make it out of plasticine, then we had to draw and paint our set. We have to film everything carefully to make sure it all looks like one big movement when really it's a lot of small movements. There is an uneven number of people in the Falcons class so I am in a group of three with Thato and Mbali. We created a villain named Mr Boom. Mr Boom is a Russian villain that is super intelligent and can make things explode with his mind. The only frustrations we have with this project is that we are struggling with time management. The only thing I would change is having less characters. We thought that it would be better if we had four characters instead of two and although it is interesting, it is also a lot

Instant Messaging Guidelines

Image
Last week in IT we were given a task to create a poster about instant messaging and how it can go wrong for the grade fours. We watched a video about how a girl got a new phone an messaged three of her friends. Each friend took the message differently. Two thought it was an angry message and the other one thought it was a perfectly normal message. This was a part of our digital citizenship. They just started using iPads this year so they were very eager to use messages. Apparently this didn't go so well. On the poster we had to include what tone and facial expression mean and how messaging can go wrong. Today the grade four Pheasants came to look at our posters. We had to explain what all of this means and why you should be careful when you message someone. I hope hey learnt a lot today and will be careful in the future about what they say on messages. The main message was also that it is better to call someone or speak to them directly.

Poetry ILT

Last week we had our poetry ILT. ILT stands for Integrated Learning Task. We are put into groups of three to four. Some of the work is individual and some of it is group work. We had to things like, write a poem relating to a theme, answer a few questions on a poem and a lot more. In my group was Mbali and Christian. We struggled a bit with time management but overall we worked well together. For task one we had to do poetry terminology which was easy. For task two we had to write a poem relating to a theme, this is my cinquain poem about summer,                                                                           Summer                                                                     Warm and Sunny                                                                   Running, Swimming,                                                                          Relaxing                                                                 Cool, Energetic, Happy

First Blog of 2017

Grade 6 is finally here! I can't believe I've been at the senior primary for three years now. This year I am in the Falcons. So far grade 6 has been amazing and I can't wait to see what is going to happen this year. This year I hope I can get my English, Afrikaans and Maths marks to improve. he classes are very mixed this year but I still have a lot of friends in my class. Grade 6 is very different from grade four and five especially since we don't have as much homework. I've gotten used to the fact that we get different teachers for different subjects. Miss Calitz is my class teacher, she takes us for Afrikaans and LO. Most people think that Miss Calitz seems but once you get to know her she is very funny and kind. In English we are reading Wonder with Mrs Kent. My class are the monitors for this term. Being a monitor is very exciting. Grade 6 is bit more challenging than Grade 5 but a challenge is good. This year the school production is The Little Mermaid. I was

Science Expo Blog (Energy)

This year the grade 5s had to do energy for the Sciene Expo. I worked alone for the Science Expo  because it was easier for me. My mom went on Pinterest and we found a biomass lamp that I could do but we didn't because we couldn't find how to do it and what we needed to do it. Eventually my mom found a biogas experiment. I did a biogas experiment that tests which bottle of food scraps can produce the most gas. I chose biogas because it's different and no one else was doing it and it can help with our waste management. We started my experiment too late so the balloons didn't inflate as well as it should've. When we did the posters at school I didn't have my photos so I couldn't plan everything out but, the next day I got my photos and it looked perfectly fine. On the day of the Science Expo I felt nervous but confident. While I was speaking I forget to add something in so I had to stop take a breath and then I remembered. The judge, Mrs Pierce was very nice. A

Why I chose 'Climbing Table Mountain'

Image
I chose Climbing Table Mountain for my powerful verb keynote because everyone was doing what I was originally going to do so I just wanted to do something original. It took me a while to figure out what I was going to do. At first when Mrs Raubie told us we were going to do the powerful verb keynote I already knew what I was going to do, until I heard somebody was already going to do it. So I had to change my idea. I got the idea of Table Mountain because the first time I went up Table Mountain it was the most amazing experience ever. Although going up Table Mountain is scary, even if you are in the cable car.
